Record a CD question
I have a 2008 EX35 and have recorded a couple of CDs to the stereo system. In both cases, no album or track information came across. I don't see it as useful to have CDs recorded and no way to know which one is which. Am I doing something wrong?

According to the owners manual on page 4-46 and 4-47 if you'll use WMA or MP3 when recording you'll get that info displayed. (See ID3/WMA Tag below)
WMA Windows Media Audio (WMA) is a compressed audio format created by Microsoft as an alternative to MP3. The WMA codec offers greater file compression than the MP3 codec, enabling storage of more digital audio tracks in the same amount of space when compared to MP3s at the same level of quality. Bit rate Bit rate denotes the number of bits per second used by a digital music files. The size and quality of a compressed digital audio file is determined by the bit rate used when encoding the file. Sampling Frequency Sampling frequency is the rate at which the samples of a signal are converted from analog to digital (A/D conversion) per second. Multisession Multisession is one of the methods for writing data to media. Writing data once to the media is called a single session, and writing more than once is called a multisession. ID3/WMA Tag The ID3/WMA tag is the part of the encoded MP3 or WMA file that contains information about the digital music file such as song title, artist, album title, encoding bit rate, track time duration, etc. ID3 tag information is displayed on the Album/Artist/Track title line on the display. Windows and Windows Media are registered trademarks or trademarks of Microsoft Corporation CompactFlash is a trademark of SanDisk Corporation in the United States of America I also included what media and Formats the Ex35 CD player is compatible with.

Thanks for the info Squid.
However, I think the issues is much simpler than that. When I play a CD (brand new CD just released) I do not get any album or track information in the display. Just "Track 1", "Track 2", etc. It looks like the system is simply not reading the information from the CD. I believe that this is causing the CDs t to record without the information. Reading page 4-54 in the Owner's Manual in the Text section, I should be getting the Disc title and the Track title from the CD, while additional information is available from a CD with MP3 or WMA. I did try recording with the Title Text Priority (Page 4-63) set to both CDDB as well as CD Text and I get the same results either way. |

Oh, I thought these were CD's you recorded at home. As for store bought CD's I haven't bought one in over 10 years so I can't help you there.

Welcome to the forum, Sunapee!
The EX's Music Box is pre-loaded with a version of the Gracenote CD database (formerly known as CDDB). When you insert a commercial CD, this database is used to obtain the matching information based on a signature. To account for commercial CDs that become available after the database snapshot was done, Infiniti provides a downloadable program: Infiniti Music Box Updates by Gracenote - Infiniti USA The above link simply allows you to obtain album/track information for CDs not covered by the data pre-loaded in the Music Box, by giving you a program to connect to the current (presumably updated), Gracenote DB over the Internet using a computer. The full illustrated instructions are provided, but be warned you'll need a CF card. That said, some EX users have complained that it doesn't work for them. Now, whether Gracenote hadn't updated their online database or there's some fault in the supplied program, I can't say. The phrase "your mileage may vary" seems apt here. Hope that answers your question. Good luck! David |

I think you are not writing in the correct format or your cd player is not compatible with the written format.
