Question CF Card Compatibility?

Does anyone know the specifications (e.g. any limitations on the capacity, speed, etc) for CF cards compatible with the EX35 slot?
I tried to look for it in the manual but couldn't find anything.

TIA!
David

2 gigs is the max.
I couldn't find specs so I bought a Sandisk 4GB Extreme III Compact Flash. Unfortunately, I found out the max capacity is 2 gig. The slot would only recognize 2 gigs worth of music. The 4 gig works but will not account for the 2 extra gig worth of music. So I only posted 2 gigs of music on the 4 gig compact flash card so I could control which songs were readable.
Just get a 2 gig compact flash card. They are really cheap now. Under 40 bucks if you look for specials.

Cool

Hey Kevin,

Try formatting the 4GB card Fat32. From what I read, support for Fat32 is required for anything past 2GB. Since the manual (p.4-48)shows that the EX35 supports Fat12, 16 and 32, this makes me suspect that your CF card might have been formatted Fat16.

Just a thought,
David

Thanks David,
I also see that page 4-48 notes a max of 255 Folders and 512 files.

I need to go count how many folders/files I have on the CF Card. That may be my problem.

Sounds good, Kevin! If you're running Windows, right-clicking on the CF card root and choosing Properties should do it.

Please post again when you discover whether or not 4GB can be recognized (and if so, any cautions/limitations).

Thanks!
David

Recording songs
1. Operate the audio system to play a CD.
2. Select the RECº key using the INFINITI
controller and push the ENTER button.
The system starts recording the track being
played and REC CD appears on the screen.
If the title information of the track being recorded
is stored either in the hard-disk drive or
in the CD, the title is automatically displayed on
the screen. For title acquisition from the harddisk
drive, music recognition technology and
related data are provided by GracenoteT.
To view the details of the track, select the Text
key by touching the screen or using the INFINITI
controller. The track name and album title are
displayed on the screen.
If a track is not recorded successfully due to
skipping sounds, the mark is displayed
behind the track number.

Automatic recording :
If the Automatic Recording function is turned
to ON, recording starts when a CD is inserted.
Stopping recording :

To stop the recording, select the
STOP button

by touching the screen or using the INFINITI

controller.

If the CD is ejected, the audio system is turned

off or the ignition switch is pushed to the OFF

position, the recording also stops.

You can find all of the above and more in the PDF below. Chapter 4.

OK well, quoting the manual is one thing, but here's what I found in actual use!

The "record" function works by ripping the CD at full speed, not in realtime, so you won't need to play the full CD to get all the songs. Once recording is started, you can switch to listen to something else and it still continues to rip.

If you burn your own audio CDs (as I do), one annoying aspect is that you will NOT be able to associate any titles to those ripped tracks. It seems that only the information for commercially available CDs found in the Gracenote DB can be associated.

I haven't experimented enough to know what happens in a multitude of situations, including if one were to:
a) turn off the car
b) stop the recording mid-track
c) eject the CD before it's done
... etc

If anyone else has more info to fill in the blanks, I would be grateful.
