Welcome, donesber!

Yes, please keep us posted on your results. I'm just coming to the end of my first tankful of 87 and so far, I'm fine with the ever-so-slight drop in power. As far as mileage goes, it's been so hot here that I've run A/C more than usual, so this tank won't be that representative.

Once I get more data, I'll post that also.

Cheers,
David

finally...new fuel pump

I had my fuel pump replaced today. No more noise at start up. I did not realize how noisy it was until it was no longer there. While at Infiniti, I looked at the new FX's, very nice, still not in love with the headlights. Interior is very similiar in appearance to EX.

My fuel pump is (finally) scheduled to be replaced next week.

OK, just got around to having a close look at my fuel economy.

I've now clocked just shy of 4200 km (about 2600 miles) and the instrument cluster is showing an average fuel economy of 12.4 l/100km, or just over 19.1 mpg (US gallons). I estimate that about 30% of this was city driving.

The period-to-period fuel economy function available from the touchscreen shows quite a variation - from about 10.7 l/100km (22 mpg) to about 13.2 l/100km (17.8 mpg).

I say about because (as I'm sure you've all discovered), exact readings are not available from that function. Results are only depicted as a bar graph and the best you can do is estimate. Would it really have cost Infiniti that much to build a complete function that saves/displays for each interval, the starting odometer reading, number of miles/kms travelled and the calculated economy value (or fuel amount used)?

Interestingly, I've achieved better fuel economy from 87 octane in my last 3 tankfuls than my first 4 or 5 fillups, using 91 octane. I realize this isn't enough data from which to draw any firm conclusions and I did anticipate better fuel economy as the engine components loosened up, but just the same, this was unexpected.

Cheers,
David

It good to see some gas mileage numbers being posted. Are those numbers from the car's computer, or calculated values (e.g. miles driven/gallons added at refueling)?

The numbers are from the on-board computer. Don't know how accurate it is, but it's one measure that I'm assuming is somewhat consistent since every EX has it built-in.

I will track a couple of tankfuls manually later on and compare the results with that shown by the EX's computer. I would think though there's enough variation in where different gas pumps "click off" that it's not easy to be tightly accurate, even computing it manually.

Well,
We get ~20 MPG on 60/40 highway to city driving. When on the highway, we don't get much better because i drive fast, but in the city I don't do jackrabbit starts.

Hey group ... just reporting that I had my fuel pump replaced a few weeks ago and the moaning noise on start-up seems to be gone for good.

Cheers,
David
